Write down the changes you want to discuss
A few notes can make it easier to remember what you wanted to say. Describe when changes began, how often they occur and which parts of everyday life they affect. If relevant, bring a record of period changes that you already keep.
You are gathering information for a conversation, not diagnosing yourself. New or concerning symptoms deserve an individual assessment rather than an assumption that menopause explains everything.
Gather the information you already have
There is no need to order tests or start a supplement to prepare for an introductory discussion. Ask the office what it needs for your appointment, and let the physician decide which evaluation is appropriate.
- Current medicines and supplements, including doses recorded on their labels.
- Relevant health history, prior care and available records.
- Your most important questions, in the order you want to discuss them.
- Any preferences or concerns about possible approaches to care.
Questions to bring to the physician
- Could something other than the menopause transition explain these changes?
- What further assessment, if any, would help?
- Which options are appropriate to discuss in my circumstances?
- What can be provided here, and when might outside care be needed?
- What should happen after this visit, and when should we review the plan?
- How should I contact the practice with a non-emergency question?
Clarify membership before you enroll
Ask about the relevant physician's current availability, how appointments work and what ongoing primary care includes. A consultation about joining is different from a medical appointment or an individual treatment recommendation.
Membership does not replace insurance. Ask about outside tests, prescriptions and specialist costs so you can assess the whole arrangement. Use the pricing page for current membership rates rather than assuming a particular treatment is included.
Further information
